He's dicing with death to be sure. Interestingly, most of the people who responded to Baker's question were of the opinion that goalkeeper was the position teams could do without, opting for rush keeper or something called 'scramble keeper' (no nominated keeper, just a free-for-all). This might come in handy if we don't find a replacement for Ant...
As 'left-back' was my first proper position (I actually was given 'inside-right' in my first ever 11-a-side game - but the manager spotted I had as much talent for shooting then as I do now) and since then I have always held this position as sacred in any team.
I used to respond to the 'left back in the changing room' joke with contempt; I mean the player with the responsibility to stop most oppositions' potential play maker was a highly prestigious task.
Things have changed of course and right-wingers are not as they were either, nor usually as influential, but I would still remove a centre-half or centre-midfield player before the left-back, as there are usually 2 of each of them.
The subsequent possible formations of 4-3-2 or 3-4-2 are very feasible alternatives to the more obvious tactic of just playing one up front with a team of 10.
Long live the left-back.
Of course the number 3 remains as highly prized even in a 10 player team - if traditional numbering systems 1,2,3..10 are employed.
The key question is the psychological affect on all number 11s, doomed to be be outside the first team ten.

Yes, I don't rate Danny Baker's chances as a Millwall fan. Whats the chances that West Ham will finish higher for the next ten seasons than them?

I agree with the Hut - its a sacred position such as the likes of Julian Dicks. Thats why 4-4-2 is so important,.
I thought the line up was 2-3-5 when the Hut started playing haha. See how our current crop start panicking
