Last week the management team agreed that we would have a squad of 14 for each game. Therefore I would like to explain the rationale behind who is on standby and who is playing this week.
Put simply I have looked at who attended the club socials recently and picked them automatically. The only exception to this is Andy J who is playing, then Montell is on standby based on having the next best attendance, then Barry.
I would encourage everybody to turn up and watch and if anybody drops out then the stand by order applies.

Apologies for the late posting of the team but I was watching the Euro '96 recap on BBC1. Hope this summer is half as exciting as that was (yes even as Scotsman who was at the infamous 2-0 loss to England....... in the ENGLAND end). It was some tournament and thanks to the team I was playing with at the time I went to a few games including the final.

In this system with 4 subs sometimes players have to play for 45 minutes which I am trying to rotate around the team. 

Last week this applied to Luke. I judged that people would rather play for that period of time rather than missing out. This week it applies to Charlie and Barry.

Also based on the last few week's experiences it has been useful to have an extra player to cover injuries and the 4th sub has enabled this to happen.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts.

I have had to ask Montell and Dean to miss out this week just to let you all know.

A lot of the team played two games at the weekend so they were front of the queue for playing tomorrow but I have also taken into account possible fatigue issues re the team selection with Luke and Stuart but will monitor the situation. You may have noticed that Charlie is down to be between the posts for the last part of the second half. He has told me that he would like to be an understudy to Anthony so I thought I could have a look at him in a match hence the formation at the end of the game.

It is a change of formation intended to provide both stability defensively with Lee playing in front of the defence pressuring the opposition's forwards and mopping up any scraps; Dan and Steve tracking back and pushing forward offensively and Sam given some freedom to create in the classic Number 10 role.
It also relies on Dan and Steve to support both the defence and the attack so I hope that you have both had your weetabix tomorrow.

Spectacular Sparta!

Those of us who went to see the mighty Sparta Rotterdam in September will be delighted to learn that they have just secured promotion to the Dutch Eredivisie after 6 years in the second tier.  Obviously our chanting and encouragement spurred them on to greatness!  If the mighty Excelsior stay up, there will be THREE Rotterdam teams in the top league next season.  Terrific!  Here's a photo of the pitch shortly after the team won promotion (photographer: our friend Edwin who was there on the night!)…

Once again we have had to select a squad from 18 players which has its challenges but shows that there is a fantastic committment to playing for the Accies. 

I have explained to all concerned why they have missed out this week, but please be aware of the critia for selection- commitment, attendance at socials including the pub and all events organised by the club, an active participant in the ethics of the club and the team mentality I keep banging out about! We are a team so we should have each other's backs on and off the pitch.

The magnificent seven!

What a team performance that was. 

We started off slowly but soon got up a good head of steam wth Simon's excellent opportunist goal being a reward for all that hard graft and skilful play.  We kept the pressure up steadily throughout the game and with Lee's anchor role at the back we had a foundation that led to an increasing confidence throughout the pitch.

The belief that we were working together and knew that there would be cover really made a difference. The score line reflected not only our clinical finishing but also our ability to prise open their defence with precision passing.

It was a pleasure to watch and must give us all hope and belief in the values of collective  endeavour and 100% effort.

Fantastic stuff and more of the same next week please.
